Dreaming of a career in editing or publishing? This course will give you the know-how to get started, by involving you in the production of an online publication. You will learn from experience what is required, and how to go about it.
How the Module Works
1st You become familiar with a current edition of the publication
2nd You learn to use an online management system for editing the publication
3rd You collect editorial submissions, and edit those submissions
4th You prepare an online edition of the publication
5th You submit the product to your mentor for comment
6th You make adjustments as needed.
7th The publication is authorized to go live on the internet.
Why is this such a valuable experience?
It is difficult to get a start in the publishing industry. Publishers are usually swamped by people seeking employment, and applicants may not even be considered unless they have already worked in the publishing field. This means that many qualified graduates never even get the opportunity to show what they can do!
This module gives you that opportunity to work on a real-life publication. With something to show publishers, you have a much better chance of gaining employment in this field.
Nominal duration: 100 hours
Enrolments accepted from August 2008
